Day Trip To Edom

Being that some of us had to work on the Fourth of July (the news business runs all the time), my wife Barbara and I struck out on Tuesday for a quick day trip to Edom, a neat little craft community on Farm-to-Market Road 279, about 15 miles from Tyler.

We have been hearing about the good food at The Shed since we first moved here more than five years ago and just never seemed to find the time to make it out to the place. Well, that was number one on our agenda as we pulled into the small town around 11 a.m. We sampled their fried catfish and burgers and found both to be fantastic.

The Shed must be a real popular spot. They are building additions to both ends of the main building. It looks like they are doubling their capacity. Judging from the brisk lunch crowd, they need the extra space.

Potters Brown Made Trip Special

We were very impressed with the neat pottery at Potters Brown in "downtown" Edom.

Doug and Beth Brown were in the process of making bowls when we were there. Beth was working on rolling out clay for the bowls and Doug was about to start up the kiln. They certainly made us feel at home.

Curious about this tombstone in Kilgore Cemetery

This tombstone is in a shaded corner of the old Kilgore Cemetery. I have always wanted to know more about the person buried here and the circumstances of his death. The inscription on the tombstone is comprised of the entire song lyrics of a Jackson Browne song. If you have any information about this, please let me know.
