I was living on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country outside of San Antonio about 10 years ago. We owned and boarded horses on the 140-acre spread. The house we lived in was originally a stage coach station that dated back to 1860. Neat place. During this time, my daughter Jorah and I (pictured here) turned to fashioning art items from cedar trees. I took up making cedar walking and hiking sticks. Jorah made beautiful cedar crosses. We spent our weekends in the summer making the rounds of arts and craft fairs. We both enjoyed seeing other folks appreciate items we had made with our own hands. Those were good times. In May 2003, however, Jorah died of cancer at the age of 36.
